Use this 7-step formula to make easy scrapbook pages. Doris Sander made a simple and fun band foundation for “Hot Pink” though the clever use of a chevron border mask. The masked pattern gives the page a hip feel while the two-toned effect adds visual interest. Once she’s limited to working within the remaining band order, her choices are reduced and the work is easier.[hr]

How to make this layout
- Start with a white cardstock base and your favorite large stencil. Use the stencil and paint or mist to fill a narrow border on one side of the canvas and a wider border on the other side leaving a 7 inch band down the center. NOTE: use a scrap paper to mask off sections of the stencil as you alternate between two colors for filling it in. Doris used yellow and pink.
- Stitch or draw lines on each side of the 7″ wide band in the center. Add subtle inking or paint along these lines.
- Mount a 6″ by 4″ photo flush with page top.
- Trim 3 pennants about 2″ wide from patterned papers. Mat or frame 2″ x 5″ photo or ephemera and tie with wide soft ribbon. Layer pennants and tied ephemera along bottom edge of photo.
- Trim 2 small 1/2″ pennants and embellish with rub-ons. Layer on the larger pennants.
- Trace or stencil a burst at bottom right of the center band, flush with and running off page bottom. Fill with color. Mount title on burst.
- Embellish cluster above with chipboard burst.
