How to make this layout

  1. Use kraft paper as your base and punch 20 hearts from a second piece of the same paper.
  2. Arrange hearts in a 4 by 5 grid filling the page. “Distress” the hearts on the canvas with sandpaper or with white paint and a dry brush.
  3. Mat or frame a 5.5″ x 4″ photo.
  4. Prepare a foundation for the photo with misting, masking or painting in bottom right corner. Erin masked a green dotted block for her foundation.
  5. Mount photo at bottom right. Punch and layer an additional heart at bottom left of photo. Add journaling. Add “faux” stitching by drawing dashed journaling lines with a white sharpie. Draw them running off the heart to add to the sense of it being actual stitching.
  6. Combine big white alphas with small black dymo tape for a title with inherent contrast.
  7. Add a few black ink splatters.
