Scrapbooking Ideas for Visual Storytelling with the List/Collage Story Style

Your best scrapbook pages reflect a storytelling style–your preference for certain kinds of stories and your way of telling them both visually and with words. We defined and illustrated 10 different story styles in the Story Styles LookBook that’s a part of the Get It Scrapped membership.

One of those styles is the List or Collage Story Style. The list or collage style collects pieces that accumulate to tell your story. See examples of this style from our team.

Sian Fair says, “Even if I don’t make any other diary notes while we’re away on holiday, I do like to jot down a few quick lists–what I wore or what I read, for example–because I know that when I get home, I can either use each list for a separate page or combine them all onto one round-up layout. Lists work perfectly for travel memories.”

Deborah Wagner says, ” The photo was taken moments after my daughter gave birth to her daughter, Aeriel Louise. It was wonderful to be there by her side.  I used the list story style to give all the facts of Aeriel’s birth – date, time, pounds; inches; and, most of all, the all-consuming love.”

Michelle Houghton says, “I took part in a photo-a-day challenge here at Get It Scrapped for the month of September 2013, and I created a single layout incorporating all my photos. I decided on a two-page, collaged spread so I could include not only all the photos, but the prompts and my notes from my blog as well. Putting them all together created quite the collage of memories!”

Karen Poirier-Brode says, “This page is about who I am and what I am doing right now. I saw the kit This is Me at The Digi Files this month and knew it would be perfect. I used a few elements from other kits with a little recoloring to finish the page. The little labels are perfect for this list collage method. I love what the repetitions with variety add to my page. It’s a design I can use again in a similar fashion at other times to compare my life’s changes.”

Jennifer Kellogg says, “My niece LOVES to take selfies – especially with someone else’s phone. If you’re not careful she’ll take a ton of selfies! When I showed this page to my daughter she said, “She got your phone, didn’t she?”

“I used a collage design to emphasize the random, chaotic nature of her self expression. I used list journaling to capture the spirit of the page. ”

Ronnie Crowley says, “I’ve been reading books by the author Gretchen Rubin and she talks about Be Gretchen so I’ve been pondering how I can Be Ronnie which made me consider all the roles I’ve played in life. I used the sunbursts to represent the different parts of me. The black-and-white picture of me as a child was used to help show the passage of time. I then used the journaling strips to record lots of the roles I’ve played in my life.”
