Let’s talk about scrapbooking spaces. Is your scrapbooking space a retreat to a room with a view or a room stacked with supplies, or something else? Is it a sofa with your laptop as you digitally scrapbook, or a standing desk and a shelf of ribbons in jars? Maybe you’ve got a well organized rolling cart full of supplies.

“the studio space”
Kelly Sroka says, “Right now my space is brand new. Up until about two weeks ago, I had my studio in a room downstairs in our house. Recently, my oldest left for college, leaving his room empty. It is a large, airy, upstairs space with lots of natural light. We repainted the room in the color scheme that we recently used in our kitchen and famliy room remodel. The new paint gives the area a warm, cozy feel. This room will also be my husband’s office when he works at home as well as an exercise area for the two of us.”
“To create my studio area, I moved my two desks to the back of the room, in front of the window. I love the natural light that is let in as well as the view out the window. My primary workspace is to the right. I have a printer and Silhouette set up on the left desk. I have IKEA rolling carts at each end to hold frequently used items like washi tape, punches, and a Big Shot. To the right of my desk, I have a large bookshelf that holds my letter stickers, stamps, and kits. Most of my supplies are organized into kits so that I can scrap with an already coordinated collection of products.”
“I have a basket of enamel dots on my desk because I love to include dots on almost every layout. I have my most used adhesives, scissors, small tools, trimmer, and mat on my desk. My computer sits on a desk to the right of the bookshelf so that I can easily it to print photos or journaling.”
“I love to scrapbook during the day when the light is pouring into the room. I do, however, have lamps with natural light bulbs so that I can work at night if I wish.”
“Since I am still getting used to this new space, I haven’t done much decorating yet. I know that as I use the area more, I will tweak the layout and personalize the space. I am looking forward to many happy hours of scrapbooking here!”

“the shared space”
Devra Hunt says, “I have a dedicated space for crafting. It’s neutral in color with red accents. Red brings warmth to the room as well as brightness, which I need during the winter. I love having my desk next to the window for natural daylight. I look over my back yard, which is full of evergreen trees. My room does double as the guest room. This can present a problem sometimes, as I am not a neat scrapper. I usually have to clean up my piles of stuff for arriving visitors.”
“This couch becomes the bed when guests arrive. My dog likes it too. He keeps me company while I play. While the shelf above it holds things that make me smile: vintage Nancy Drew books and Mickey Mouse figurines remind me of interests I’ve had throughout my life.”
“This is an antique shelf that used to be on the wall in my Mom’s kitchen. It’s perfect to hold small embellishments, photos and other knick knacks with special meaning to me.”

“the office”
Deborah Wagner says, “I scrapbook in my office, and I love it. I have a 27″ iMac and a large format printer. My windows face the front of our home so I always know who is coming or leaving. Outside my office is a fountain, and on nice days I open my windows and enjoy the calming sounds of the water.”
“My office is messy with paperwork, little snippets of inspirational quotes or artwork, and always lots of snacks. I would like to get a sturdier desk, but then I would probably just pile more junk on it. My office is my favorite room in our house.”
“My 3 challenges. We call them the outlaws – Al Capone, Bugsy Malone and Annie Oakley. They either want to be next to me or on top of me. They think my lap is the perfect resting spot. I love them dearly.”

“the work-in-progress”
Marcia Fortunato says, “I would describe my workspace as a large work in progress. Over the past couple of years I have been transitioning from a section of a shared space to my current room which occasionally doubles as a guest room but mainly functions as my workspace. I have a lot of space to work with and I’ve been slowly adding storage pieces as I find something I like or as I figure out what I need.”
“I scrapbook as I find and/or make time, and it can be any time of day or night. I’m often alone in my house, so depending on the time of day or how I’m feeling at the time, I may move my supplies or even my work table to our adjacent family room to watch television or I may simply work in silence at my table in front of the windows overlooking our lake, with only our cat occasionally coming in to say hello.”
“I love my view! On a sunny day it’s so peaceful working in front of my window and looking out at the lake. But I also love the flexibility of my workspace. I have a tall work table on wheels and two storage carts for supplies which can be easily moved into the family room to watch TV when I want, and I have supplies in bins and drawers that can be taken out to make things more accessible. I like having my basic supplies close at hand on my work table or on one of the carts, but I don’t mind having to get up and move around to find other supplies that I find that I need. I also like the eclectic mix of old and new furniture and tend to look for pieces that are functional first and hope that I also like their looks. I have a mix of scrapbook storage, office supplies, bookshelves, and random storage units, but they all serve a purpose.”
“As I’ve set up my new space I’ve had to face the fact that although I love the idea of having everything in bins and behind closed doors, I tend to be an “out of sight, out of mind” kind of person, and so I need to keep things where I can easily see and access them. One of my biggest challenges has been storage of patterned paper. It’s easier to look through when it’s standing up, but then it tends to slouch a bit if the container is not full. I think I’ve finally come up with a solution with an Ikea storage tower and slide out bins, but we’ll see.”
