Scrapbooking Ideas for Pages About Sports

Sports! There’s the thrill of the game, and–if you’re a scrapbooker–the challenge of getting photos, and, finally, the work of arranging those photos on the page so the story can be revisited later: on scrapbooking pages about sports. Ronnie Crowley says, “We have just finished the summer season of AAU basketball, and my page is a summary page to record our feelings about the season. In my scrapbook, I think its important to record the lows as well as the highs! Using multiple images allowed me to show the effort involved even when you’re losing!”

Marcia Fortunato says, This is an older story but one that I’ve never recorded, despite the fact that it was one of the highlights of my oldest son’s career as a junior gymnast (under 18 years old). He qualified for and then competed at the U.S. Championships – an opportunity to compete with the big boys. This layout documents his second trip to the championships.”

“The focus of this and many sports layouts is definitely the photos. I wanted to use a lot of photos, so a two-page layout was an obvious choice. Using a variety of crops and a puzzle-like arrangement not only allowed me to use nine large photos but also helped to convey the activity and excitement of the event.”

“Originally I planned to include more journaling, but I also wanted to showcase the photos, since they could do a better job of demonstrating my son’s talents. Since I wanted to keep the focus on him, I kept the journaling more subtle by including just the highlights in grey ink on this layout. Later I will add a third page with the more complete story and a few extra photos taken outside of the competition.”

Audrey Tan says, “This page is about my boys doing the sprint events in their school. I managed to capture them and tried to show each of my boys running towards the finishing line. Even the parents were invited to compete. Hence, my page showed all three of us in action.”

Terry Billman says,”I’m not a great golfer. In fact, I border on being a bad to mediocre golfer. I find golf a frustrating game. Most of my shots are just so-so.  But, there is always that one shot in a round of golf that’s exceptional, that keeps me coming back to the game. This layout is about that one good shot.”

“I like to evoke a feeling of movement in my sports pages, whether it is golf, football, or basketball I’m documenting. In order to achieve a sense of movement, here, I blended a photo of myself teeing off from the tee box into the background paper.  I placed the framed close up photo of where the ball landed on the green. The loop da loop adds movement, giving the feeling of the ball leaving the club head and landing next to the hole.”

Karen Poirier-Brode says, “The story is about how I found my sport. I used an old photo from 1978. While I had difficulty adjusting the color, I decided not to convert it to bloack and white so that I could emphasize the pink in my ski suit. The supplies from the kits were designed with a ski layout in mind and were easy to add to the template. I sometimes like a lot of details in my layouts, especially when there is only one photo.”

Marie-Pierre Capistran says, “This is a layout about what I think is important to keep in mind while participating in swim meets. It also celebrates my daughter’s accomplishments. The story is told with a grid of small photos and text-filled elements on the left and a larger photo of my daughter, smiling at her win on the right. I added her ribbon to the photo. The pieces on the left are filled with advice and evidence of the event.”

Deborah Wagner says, “I had several photos of my nephew playing basketball, but they were from different games/places so I wasn’t sure how to put them together on a layout. I searched the web; and found inspiration from this collection of sports portrait posters on Pinterest. They were so eye-catching, and knew I could use the filters in Photoshop to turn the photos into illustrations. My nephew loves it, and that makes me happy!”
