Ideas for Scrapbook Page Storytelling with an English Countryside Style | Get It ScrappedThe “English Countryside” style has been made popular by the shabby chic look of old English cottages. In this style you’ll find collected and mixed floral prints, ornate frames, fine china and charming textures like lace, worn paper, or old painted wood.

Take a look at your scrapbooking stash, and see how many of these motifs and materials you’ve collected–and then put them to work on your scrapbook pages–as our team as done here.

Kristy T says, “We visited The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction when we visited the Lake District in the United Kingdom last year and were enchanted by the beautiful displays based on the illustrations in her books. The English Countrysidestyle–with floral prints and soft colors–is a perfect fit for Potter’s storis which were given settings inspired by her home in the English Countryside.”

“I created the look on this page by using patterned papers with floral motifs, soft colors and a touch of green, layered onto a woodgrain background.  The journalling in the jar and the flower embellishments mimic the idea of flowers in a jar sitting on a windowsill. It was important to journal in a grey pen rather than my usual black to tone with the rest of the layout.”

Betsy Sammarco says, “I found this special photo of my brother looking adoringly at me while I brushed my hair as a child. Since this brother has always been a kidder and a teaser, this photo is a keeper! My photo is an older, faded photo and shows a piece of life in a little girl’s bedroom and I thought the vintage, feminine stylings of the English Countryside would work nicely.”

“When I think of English Countryside Style I think of vintage items, peeling wallpaper, mismatched trinkets, doilies, flowers, and frames.  I included most all of these elements in my page.  The background of the page is reminiscent of peeling wallpaper and was created by layering vintage paper, vintage pattern tissue, and scrapbook paper, and softening all of these layers with paint.  A solid piece of Bazzill was used on the left side to rest the eye and serve as a solid background for the key elements of the page.”

Stefanie Semple says, “My daughter’s cat broke his shoulder blade and is recuperating for 6 weeks after a very expensive operation. My daughter has really taken responsibility in a wonderful (and slightly annoying) way. The photo of her is taken in our home, and I have decorated with florals and mini prints, very much like the English Countryside style, so I felt it worked beautifully to tell this story.”

“I see a great mix of solid colors with fabulous florals, stripes and mini prints in the English Countryside style, loads of layers and fabulous details with fabulous wooden furniture. I love a great wood grain as a background paper and also love adding a stripe that ties the color scheme together. I used greens, creams, and tone-on-tone grey with pops of red. There is texture in the wood grain, the dots, and the patterned papers that all add a richness and homely feel.”

Kelly Sroka says, “Our farm is in beautiful bloom most of the year. The wildflowers that grow here often remind me of an English countryside. This page features two of the flowers we see in summer. I love capturing these lovely flowers with my camera!”

“In order to evoke the feeling of the English countryside style on my page, I used a color scheme of pink and green with a few touches of navy blue and yellow. I also used paper flowers, bows, lacy ribbon, and floral paper–all elements associated with this style. My favorite product on the page is the pink patterned paper covered in tiny bows–so dainty and elegant!”

Lynn Grieveson says, “I wanted to scrap older photos of my daughter just hanging out at home. The English Countryside style was a good fit as it reminds me of the cottage style decoration of our home at the time and has a nostalgic feel for me.”

“To capture the essence of the style I used a pretty palette of colors and the traditional floral motifs typical of the look. I also used a hand-stitched embroidered alpha as a nod to the tapestry and embroidered cushions that you will find in a house furnished in that style.”

Devra Hunt says, “I had the opportunity to visit a butterfly exhibit for the first time. Seeing them flutter around, landing everywhere was truly breathtaking.”

“English countryside makes me think of exactly this setting: the country, the outdoors, and nature where the butterflies inhabit.   The distressed wood grain. small floral prints, and subtle hints of gold on the page all speak to this outdoor countryside feeling.”

Audrey Tan says, “This page is about our trip to Scotland, and we attended a fete in a Scottish countryside. Hence, my page is a representative of a countryside. Flowers were in full bloom then, and I’ve chosen a branch with flowers as an embellishment. The background reflects that of a Scottish countryside.”
