An Irish proverb says: “It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.”

I love that idea of connecting the idea of shelter to friendship. On these pages, our creative team scrapbooks about one fast friendship in their life. See how they’ve recorded these connections with photos, words, color, and motif and get ideas for scrapbooking your own treasured friendships.

Michelle Houghton says, “This page is all about my dear friend Tami and how we connected. My friendship with Tami developed online.  After moving many times as an adult, I am finding that some of my closest friends are the ones that I have met and gotten to know online.  They are always there no matter where either one of us is physically.”

“I used a whole mish-mash of supplies starting with spray mists–because they are a signature touch of my friend Tami’s pages. I added tape, twine and tags and finished with doodling which is all me.  The photos I used are our current avatars on-line so this is how we “see” each other most of the time!”

Terry Billman says, “This layout is a tribute to my friend, Dominga.  It’s a tribute to how our friendship has evolved over the years due to both of us going through the same difficulty in life, our husbands having the same cancer. I did not have to think twice about what I would write. On many occasions she and I have discussed our special bond and how we were brought together.”

“The design of this layout is the same as one that I did celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness. It seemed natural to use for this layout because Dominga is a breast cancer survivor. I chose these colors because teal is one of her favorite colors and the pink is used to represent Breast Cancer Awareness.”

Rosann Santos-Elliott says, “This layout chronicles my son’s travel companion and the many places they have explored together. Since they usually spend time together during the summer and fall, I wanted to use soft colors that were reminiscent of summer and fall activities.”

Stefanie Semple says, “I am so thankful to the impact that by best friend has had on my life for the past 20 years.I asked her son to take a photo of the two of us together.” So often I take pictures of her and her family, as much as we are involved in each other’s lives it is seldom that our time together is photographed or documented in any way.”

“Once I had the photo it was easy to journal what was on my heart. I find it so much easier to write than I do to speak out in person. I typed it up in Word, made sure the grammar and spelling were fine and then fitted it into my layout. We were both wearing white floral blouses so I chose a kit that was light, summery and filled with flowers to accentuate the feminine feel and to draw the eye back to the framed photo. I will print this out and give it to her.”

Christy Strickler says, “In the photo here, I am having lunch with my best friend, and the page is about how she has become like family to me.”

“I wanted to use softer, feminine colors and embellishments. I chose pastels, doilies, and flowers and a hint of glitter.  I especially liked the badge with the two little girls. Andrea has blondish hair and I have brunette. Everything I chose is fun and youthful–just like the two of us when we hang out.”

Audrey Tan says, “This page is about my best friend, who lives in Shanghai, China. We met in Singapore, became working colleagues, got separated and met up again in England. Now both of us are in different countries, but we keep in contact via FaceTime and Whatsapp and try to visit each other whenever we can. I’ve known her for 21 years and no distance can keep us apart!”

Sue Althouse says, “This page is about my friendship with Shirley. The photos of us trying on silly hats served as the starting point for this whimsical page. I wrote the first sentence and decided to follow the same format for a brief but meaningful list, which also gave me an appropriate title. The playful layering and organic shapes support the free spirit of this page.”
