Using Round-ups on Your Scrapbook Pages

Collecting related photos onto one page achieves several things:

• it allows you to see both the “trees” and the “forest”
• it reveals the patterns in your life over time
• it is a great way to scrapbooking more photos efficiently

A trend isn’t a trend until it’s been happening for a while, and you don’t always know that a photo belongs in a collection or “round-up” until a few months or even years down the road. Read on for “round-up” ideas.

Scrapbook your favorite things about a particular season. 

Lynette Penacho says, “This layout is a fall-themed page arranged as a cascade of photos and leaves falling down the page.” Consider your favorite items from any season and either take the photos or look through your old photos and pull them out for a “faves” page.

Scrapbook a round-up of something you photograph again and again. 

Ashley Horton says, “I have always had a thing for flowers.  I usually have to stop myself from taking photos of every one I pass, but there are some that I just can’t pass up.  Needless to say, I have a collection of photos, of various flowers, throughout the years.  I thought these photos would be great to use for a Round Up layout, because it gives me an opportunity to showcase the photos, without having do individual layouts for each one.  This type of layout would be fun to use for daily or just annual activities in general.  You could also use the round-up theme for funny things your kids say, by keeping a journal and writing down those quotes you want to remember and document.”

Sue Althouse  says, ” Over the years, we’ve taken trips along Lake Huron, Lake Michigan and Lake Superior in search of lighthouses. This layout is a round-up of those vacations, using left-over photos I’d saved from each trip. It was a bit of a challenge remembering the name and location of each lighthouse, but thanks to my scrapbooks and the Internet, I was soon able to locate all the information.”

Scrapbook a round-up that showcases your prized collections.

Tara McKernin says, “On this simple layout I rounded up my digital SLR cameras.  I sadly said goodbye to my 7D when it met a tragic death this year so I decided to highlight all my cameras over the last few years.  For this layout I used images of each model I have owned, I wanted to keep it clean and simple. I highlighted the layout keeping with the Canon colours.  This layout was easy to pull together however I think I would like to get into more detail about each camera.  An alternative image use you could put photos of yourself using the camera.  I didn’t have one for each model which is why I went the route I did.”

Terry Billman says, “I’m a collector of Lenox Christmas ornaments. This layout showcases my favorite pieces of my collection. The ornaments glisten and sparkle when photographed in the early evening with the tree lit. The image behind the photos is actually a bokeh photograph of my tree.”

Scrapbook a round-up of a favorite hobby.

 Michelle Houghton says, “I have rounded up photos of my daughters with jigsaw puzzles we’ve completed. I wish I had taken more of them. This is a good reminder to keep my camera at the ready. It was a little challenging figuring out how to get the shot of my daughters with the puzzles.  I ended up standing above them on tall stools or chairs so they could lay their torsos on the table with their accomplishment.”

Scrapbook a round-up of your favorite books, TV shows or movies.

Stefanie Semple says, “This is a layout about the TV shows I have loved watching this year. I think it is important to document even these mundane things because the memory fades as the years fly by and what we watch changes as our interests change and as availability of programs changes. I was able to search for and download high resolution images of our favourites on the internet. I have kept a running list of what I’ve been watching each month and put small X’s when the season has finished. I am sure that what I watch says something about me, my likes and interests and what I do for relaxation and entertainment. There are so many new favourites and each different family member loves different genres.”

Chris Asbury says, “I have a collection of vintage goodies including old books. Stacked together, the rich colors and patterns make an impressive display. How far have they traveled and who else has leafed through their pages? These words by author, Oliver Goldsmith, from the 1700s, reflect my feelings about the wonder of old things: I love everything that’s old  -old friends, old times, old manners, old books, old wine.”

Scrapbook a round-up to showcase fun photos of yourself. 

Dina Wakley says, “I take lots of pictures with my webcam, so using the frame as a combining device and design element was a good way to contain and highlight them.”

Scrapbook a round-up of your favorite indulgences.

Lisa Dickinson arranged photos of 6 “simple pleasures” in her life in 2 by 3 grid with tilted photos that play up the fun tone of the subject. Lisa says, ” There’s a bit of fun and whimsy in the tilted photos, imperfectly stamped title, and loopy letters because that’s what I want my page to convey.”

Leah Farquharson says, “Just documenting a bit on getting offline and out there. It’s good to have a balance of both.”

 Amy Kingsford says, “Shoes have always been a secret weakness of mine.  I find I take a lot of pictures of my feet, in fact each time I buy a new pair of shoes I feel inspired to capture them in a snapshot.  This layout features a few of those shots and records my obsession in a light-hearted way.  I paired these photos with fashionable prints and a punchy color scheme to give my page a hip look–befitting of its subject.”

Debbie Hodge says, “I made this page almost 5 years ago, rounding up posed shots of myself with my husband.” Seeing it now makes me realize I need to get the subsequent years on a page.”
