Dina lives in Glendale, AZ with her 3 boys and husband. She grew up all over the place including in Ohio, Michigan and England! Dina volunteers as a docent at the Phoenix Art Musuem and loves giving tours to school kids.  As you could guess, Dina absolutely loves everything about paper arts, especially art journaling, mixed media art, and scrapbooking. One of Dina’s deepest passions—aside from art—is traveling!  Dina also enjoys cooking good food, eating good food, hanging out with good friends, and reading good books!

When I asked Dina a little bit about her art and her creative process, here is what she had to say:

  • I have been scrapbooking since 1995…for Christmas that year my mom gave me a binder, a package of Rainbow Brite cardstock, sheet protectors, and a black Zig pen.
  • I mostly scrap my 3 boys…love them!
  • I don’t mind going to crops, but I scrapbook best at home in my studio…which is a fancy way of saying a room full of art stuff, and it’s always a mess.
  • I would classify myself as a Artsy, eclectic scrapbooker.
  • Some must haves I’m never without are my black ink pad for inking edges, acrylic paint, spray ink and my sewing machine.

  • Three things on my wish list–I think I’d like a Silhouette machine so I could cut my own masks. I’d also like a large-format printer…and I want my studio redesigned so I have a concrete-sealed floor and a utility sink.
  • Hmm…I can’t think of any techniques that I want to try and haven’t . I’ve been around a long time, so I’ve tried almost everything!
  • I usually get my inspiration from art…especially seeing art in person.
  • I’ve loved all of my classes. Masterful Art Journaling was really fun to write…and it took me 4 solid weeks of work to write it. I made over 90 art journal pages for that class alone!
  • I don’t have one favorite layout (I actually resist favorites…too many good things to choose just one favorite). But I really like “My Loves”…I used molding paste and paint to do the hearts.

Dina Wakley My Loves

On a personal note I’d like to say that Dina is a huge inspiration to me.  Although I am not an “art journaler,” the techniques and inspiration offered in each one of Dina’s classes have opened my mind to a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to my paper-crafting.  Thanks so much for taking the time to share a little bit with us this month Dina!  I’m sure all of your students enjoyed learning more about you, just as much as I have!
